AzioniThe handbike chassis with which Alessandro Zanardi won three medals (two gold and one silver) both in 2012 at the London Paralympics and in 2016 at the Rio Paralympics, was developed in Varano.
The design process was the same as a racing car one. Zanaradi's body surface and the bike's surface were digitized. Our engineers studied the aerodynamics by using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics), with the aim of fine-tuning the shape of the bike. Once the shape was defined, we moved on to FEM (Finite Element Methods) structural analyses, and then carried out laboratory tests. At the same time, a mannequin was built to evaluate the habitability and the driving position and then finally the first prototype was delivered to Alex, followed by the official Z-bike with which Zanardi won 3 medals in the Paralympics in 2012 and in 2016.
The handbike developed for Zanardi, with a different configuration, will soon be available for disabled and not disabled athletes.
